UNHCR relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions from governments, UN and pooled funding mechanisms, intergovernmental institutions and the private sector. We work all year round to raise funds for our programmes and address new emergencies as they occur.Kuwait’s strong partnership with UNHCR continues to show significant and steady growth year after year.

UNHCR marked its 30th anniversary in 2021, as it's been present in Kuwait since 1991. In 1996, UNHCR and the Government of Kuwait signed a Cooperation and Office Agreement, granting UNHCR privileges and immunities in the State of Kuwait, and enjoys a long-standing relationship with the Government of Kuwait, supporting Syria, Iraq, and Yemen situations. It is also worth noting that Kuwait was a member of the US$20 Million Club from 2013 – 2019.
