Call for nominations: Award for Journalistic Coverage, Refugee Response in Moldova

Moldova’s refugee response has been a defining story, on of solidarity and strength. Have you covered the refugee response in Moldova? Did your reporting make a difference? Submit your best work for Award for Journalistic Coverage. UNHCR Moldova aims to recognize outstanding coverage who has supported refugees, and the refugee response in the Republic of Moldova from February 24, 2022 until April 30, 2024. This recognition honors the critical role of the media in raising awareness and driving action to support forcibly displaced people

How to Participate

Journalists and media are invited to submit their nominations by filling an online form. Each submission should include the link to the media coverage, the people involved in its creation, and a brief explanation (300 characters) of how the article, video, reportage, or other media product was made (the story behind the scenes) and how it impacted on the refugee response in Moldova. Only one piece of work per person/organisation can be accepted.

Submission Period: May 24, 2024, to June 7, 2024, 23:59 Chisinau time.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

• Time Frame: The media product must have been produced and published between February 2022 and April 30, 2024.
• Who can participate: The coverage must be submitted by journalists and media producers from the Republic of Moldova, who covered the refugee response in the country
• Impact Statement: Each nomination must include a brief explanation (300 characters) of how the article, video, reportage, or other media product was made (the story behind the scenes) and how it impacted on the refugee response in Moldova.
• Team Acknowledgment: Submissions are available both to individuals, groups of journalists, and media outlets. In addition to the journalist signing the piece, all team members who contributed to the media product must be indicated in the special field provided in the form, such as photographers, videographers, editors, and others that were directly involved.
• Content: Acceptable submissions include articles, videos, reportages, short-documentary films, and other forms of media coverage. The content should directly address issues, stories, or solutions related to the refugee response in the Republic of Moldova.

Selection Process

A jury composed of UNHCR communication experts and local media experts, will evaluate the nominations and vote for the most impactful media coverage.

Award Ceremony

The award will be presented on June 20, 2024, in Chisinau, during a high-level event dedicated to commemorating World Refugee Day, a space to Thank the Moldovan people for their solidarity towards refugees. The winner of the award will also be invited to join the panel discussion on refugee response on the day of the event.
