60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 December 2008 - The United Nations in Malaysia and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) will be holding a world class showcase of debating skills, Dignity and Justice for All of Us, in conjunction with the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This will be held on Tuesday, 16 December 2008, at the Impiana KLCC Hotel on Jalan Pinang, from 7pm - 10pm (Reception will be held at 7pm).

Using the Asian Parliamentary style of debating, Team Malaysia will debate Team World on how far the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has set the standard for a world that is equal and fair.

Participating will be world debaters from prestigious universities such as Harvard and Cambridge, and top debaters from Malaysia, showcasing highly skilled methods of argument in this battle of word and wit.

The 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides an opportunity for us to take stock on where we have arrived in our aspirations for a peaceful co-existence of dignity and prosperity. A debate on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights promises a rich and vibrant discussion on its place in today’s world in light of contemporary world developments.
