NEW YORK, United States, September 7 (UNHCR) - The UN refugee agency has helped raise visibility in the financial world about Pakistan's flood victims by taking part in the NASDAQ closing bell ceremony in New York.

Udo Janz, head of UNHCR's New York Office, and Richard Marks from USA for UNHCR, which supports the refugee agency's work, closed the key NASDAQ Stock Market on Friday afternoon.

Shortly after the closing bell, huge screens in nearby Times Square carried a public service announcement by UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie, calling on the public to support millions of flood-displaced Pakistanis.

"This is a great day for those displaced by the floods in Pakistan and for UNHCR," Janz said. "Our thanks go to NASDAQ and to USA for UNHCR for making this possible," he added.

The NASDAQ OMX Group is the world's largest exchange company. It delivers trading, exchange technology and public company services across six continents, with more than 3,600 listed companies.
