World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Zimbabwe

Songs, dance and dramas were performed by students from primary and secondary schools and community groups in the Tongogara refugee camp. The songs promoted the local theme of "Tolerance." T-shirts were distributed with the message: "Tolerance Leads Us To Peace, Love and Understanding."

Sports competitions involving refugees and the local community were organized. An estimated 1,600 people participated, including UNHCR staff, senior government officials, refugees and members of the host community.

Also on June 20, refugee committees organized an event featuring songs, dance, competitions and drama. The Ethiopian Oromo community participated in the show and the ensuing food and crafts exhibition.
