Beyond meeting immediate humanitarian needs, UNHCR helps refugees and other forcibly displaced people rebuild their lives and become self-reliant. Working with the Government of Nigeria, development partners, the private sector and local communities, UNHCR supports long-term solutions that reduce dependency on humanitarian aid and promote social and economic inclusion.
In Nigeria, this means advancing voluntary return, local integration, livelihoods, financial inclusion and skills development — creating opportunities for displaced people to support themselves and contribute to their communities. Together, these efforts strengthen resilience and help build lasting, durable solutions to displacement.
