When conflict, violence or other emergencies force people to flee, timely humanitarian action is critical to saving lives and reducing protection risks. UNHCR responds by providing life-saving assistance that helps displaced people meet their immediate needs while preserving their dignity and safety.

In Nigeria, UNHCR delivers emergency support through an area-based approach, providing registration and legal documentation, emergency relief items, multi-purpose cash assistance, and specialized protection services for women, children and other people with specific needs. Working alongside government authorities and humanitarian partners, the organisation also strengthens national and local capacities to respond effectively during emergencies.
