High Commissioner to visit the Balkans
High Commissioner Ruud Lubbers leaves Tuesday on a five-day mission to the Balkans to get a first-hand look at UNHCR activites for refugees and displaced people throughout the region. He will visit the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. He arrives in Belgrade on Tuesday, 5 June, and is scheduled to meet President Vojislav Kostunica in the afternoon. On Wednesday, Mr. Lubbers travels to Croatia. He is scheduled to meet with Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Thursday before travelling to Sarajevo. On Friday, the High Commissioner travels to Pristina, Kosovo, in the afternoon, and then on to Skopje, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. He is scheduled to meet with President Boris Trajkovski while in Skopje. Mr. Lubbers is scheduled to make a brief visit on Saturday to Southern Serbia before departing from Skopje in the afternoon.
