World Refugee Day 2002: Australia

World Refugee Day 2002: Australia

20 June 2002

UNHCR staff register refugees at the Douma registration center on the outskirts of Damascus. Registering with UNHCR ensures that the most vulnerable refugees receive aid.

World Refugee Day Toolkits (containing posters, brochures, postcards, stickers, and refugee stories) were distributed to NGOs, community groups, and Migrant Resource Centres to help them plan and organise activities on and around World Refugee Day.

The World Refugee Day posters were displayed on hundreds of Sydney buses during June.

UNHCR's National Association Australia for UNHCR hosted a pledging event at the Sydney Opera House. Ms. Maxine McKew, a renowned broadcaster and journalist, participated as the keynote speaker.
