World Refugee Day 2002: Turkey

In co-operation with the Bilgi University in Istanbul, UNHCR hosted a ceremony on 20 June. A renowned actor, Kerem Yilmazer, read out UNHCR's World Refugee Day message. Certificates of appreciation were presented to seven individuals and institutions who had made valuable contributions to refugees. The poems by the Turkish poet, Nazim Hikmet who was a refugee in the 1940s, were presented. Refugee children performed a short play by a famous writer, Turgut Ozakman.
