UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Administration and Finance Series: Branch Offices - Accreditation Registry Code: 2/5/1/1/ACC (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 04-1951/09-1969 Extent: 14 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of copies of letters to governments requesting approval of the candidate nominated to be the UNHCR representative in a particular country or region; letters of approval received from governments; and some related correspondence. Files sometime include copies of curriculum vitae of nominated candidates. In cases where a UNHCR branch office covers several countries, the file includes copies of letters of introduction of the representative to all governments concerned. Files are arranged alphabetically by country. Files are usually small (less than 20 documents per file).
