UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Voluntary Agencies Series: Voluntary agencies - General Registry Code: 4/0 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 10-1950/05-1971 Extent: 80 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of general information on voluntary agencies and organizations working in specific countries (agencies specific to a country, or international agencies with programs in a specific country). Files include reports from UNHCR branch office representatives on agency programs, activities, and relations in their particular countries; minutes of meetings, reports, brochures, and occasionally copies of constitutions or statutes submitted by agencies; notes on visits by or with representatives of voluntary organizations; requests from branch offices for information on new, or previously unknown, organizations; and occasionally requests from agencies for support or assistance from UNHCR. Files often include lists of voluntary agencies, contact persons, and addresses for agencies and agency offices in particular countries. The series does not document operational relationships between UNHCR and any voluntary agencies. Files are organized by country.
