UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Protection Series: General Registry Code: 6/0 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 08-1954/03-1972 Extent: 53 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of information related to general legal issues such as blocked accounts, military service requirements for refugees, and the status of hijackers who request refugee status. The series also documents UNHCR relations with special legal bodies such as the Asian-African Legal Consultative Committee, the Organization of American States (OAS), the Austrian Asylbeirat, and the International Commission of Jurists.
