UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Protection Series: Marriage Registry Code: 6/7 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 02-1951/04-1970 Extent: 7 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of memoranda and correspondence regarding marriage laws, divorce laws, and family laws, and their application to, and implications for, refugees. Series includes memoranda regarding the Convention on the Nationality of Married Women (January 1957)--relating to the loss or acquisition of nationality by women as a result of marriage, of its dissolution, or of the change of nationality by the husband during marriage--and copies of notices of countries adhering to the Convention. Files also document the analysis of various individual cases. Files are organized by country. Languages: English and French; some German Finding Aids: A file list is available.
