UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Protection Series: Certificates and documents Registry Code: 6/8 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 03-1955/11-1967 Extent: 7 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of memoranda and correspondence regarding refugee identity cards to be issued by governments; memoranda regarding acquisition of personal documents (marriage certificates, insurance policies, education diplomas, etc.) by refugees; and requests for evaluations of diplomas and attestations of refugee status.
