UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Protection Series: Social security Registry Code: 6/15 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 04-1951/05-1970 Extent: 63 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of memoranda and correspondence regarding social security laws and regulations in various countries; the application (or not) of social security provisions to refugees; drafts of new laws and amendments, and UNHCR comments; news about bi-lateral, multilateral, or international social service agreements and conventions; reports from UNHCR branch offices on meetings with governments in order to promote improvement of benefits for refugees; and essays and reports interpreting or analyzing Article 24 of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
