15 Mar 2006 The UN refugee agency's Council of Business Leaders, on a visit to refugee projects in East Africa and the Great Lakes, heard Tuesday from Somali refugees in Dadaab, Kenya, that they prize education above almost anything else, and would love a chance to use computers to connect to the wider world. -
New partnership to bring better health to Africa's refugees
24 Feb 2006 UNHCR is teaming up with the pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) to deliver the latest nursing knowledge and training to health professionals working with refugees in Africa. The Nursing Library Project is delivering 50 ICN/MSD Nursing Libraries for Refugee Health to health care workers in Tanzania and Zambia, which together host some 770,000 refugees. -

Surviving against the odds: a taste of life as a refugee
7 Dec 2005 The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, on a visit to Oslo, today launched the Norwegian version of the interactive web-based game "Against all odds," which aims to give young people an insight into what it is like to be a refugee. The first Norwegian pupils to try it gave it a thumbs-up, but Norway's chief immigration official confessed to getting lost in the virtual asylum city. -

Designers on a mission: dressing refugee girls for sports
6 Jul 2005 A team from Nike's apparel department recently went to Kenya's Dadaab camp to teach Somali refugee girls to make culturally sensitive and comfortable sports uniforms specially designed for them. It was part of the "Together for Girls" project to encourage refugee girls to attend school. -
