Iran resumes repatriation to Afghanistan and Iraq
15 Sep 2004 The UN refugee agency in Iran has resumed its programme to help Afghan refugees return home to Afghanistan three days after an outbreak of violence in the Afghan city of Herat forced its suspension. UNHCR has also restarted voluntary repatriation convoys to southern Iraq, halted a month ago for security reasons. -

Afghan family joins 1 million who have gone home from Iran
2 Sep 2004 Today marks a milestone for UNHCR as the one millionth Afghan refugee returns home from Iran since the start of voluntary repatriation in April 2002. Among this symbolic group are Kabul-bound Nahid and Abdul Vakil, who are all set to help rebuild their homeland after 12 years in exile. -
UNHCR resumes Afghan return convoys from Iran amid ceasefire in Herat
23 Aug 2004 Some 13,000 Afghan refugees have been able to return home from Iran after being stuck on both sides of the border last week when UNHCR suspended convoys due to fighting in Herat. The agency has resumed the convoys following a ceasefire between the warring factions.
