Thousands of Swedish teenagers collect money for refugee schools in Rwanda
10 May 2006 Some 80,000 teenagers from some 250 high schools in Sweden participated in a campaign to collect money for the education of Congolese refugee children in Rwanda. The event, dubbed "Operation A Day's Work", was organised by the Swedish Student Organisation. -

New partnership to bring better health to Africa's refugees
24 Feb 2006 UNHCR is teaming up with the pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) to deliver the latest nursing knowledge and training to health professionals working with refugees in Africa. The Nursing Library Project is delivering 50 ICN/MSD Nursing Libraries for Refugee Health to health care workers in Tanzania and Zambia, which together host some 770,000 refugees. -

A spot of relief for students and refugees
18 Jan 2006 In Kasulu District in north-western Tanzania, UNHCR's community-based approach supports both the local Tanzanians and Burundian refugees with a new water and sanitation project. The construction of two blocks of toilets and four water points not only allows the students of Kimwanya Secondary School to maintain good hygiene, but also enables Burundian refugees to have a comfortable stop-over, when they pass by on the voluntary repatriation convoys.
