International efforts to meet humanitarian needs in emergency situations
Decision 1981/178
At its 40th plenary meeting, on 23 July 1981, the Council:1
(a) Took note of the summary report on international efforts to meet humanitarian needs in emergency situations,2 the report of the Secretary-General on the work of the Office of the United Nations Disaster Relief Co-ordinator,3 the relevant text in the annual overview report of the Administrative Committee on Co-ordination for 1980/81,4 the relevant paragraphs of the report of the Committee for Programme and Co-ordination on the work of its twenty-first session,5 the relevant section of the report of the Chairman of the Committee for Programme and Co-ordination and the Chairman of the Administrative Committee on Co-ordination on the Joint Meetings of those Committees,6 and the report of the Joint Inspection Unit entitled "Evaluation of the Office of the United Nations Disaster Relief Co-ordinator"7 and the comments of the Secretary-General thereon;8
(b) Decided to transmit the draft resolution entitled "International efforts to meet humanitarian needs in emergency situations"9 to the General Assembly at its thirty-sixth session, together with the documents referred to in paragraph (a) above;
(c) Decided further to invite the Secretary-General to provide the General Assembly at that session with such additional information and/or suggestions regarding the co-ordination of international efforts to meet humanitarian needs in emergency situations as might be necessary and appropriate, with a view to developing those views expressed by delegations in the Third (Programme and Co-ordination) Committee at the second regular session of 1981 of the Council which were reflective of consensus.
