World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Niger

Kids play in a neighbourhood populated mostly by Iraqi refugees. Because refugees are not allowed to work in Syria, children often must take informal jobs to help support their families.

On 19 June, there will be a conference on the theme, "Durable solutions: Voluntary repatriation". The president of the national refugee status eligibility commission will make a speech on radio and TV.
From 19-20 June, UNHCR's operational partners will be interviewed to explain and promote their activities. On 20 June, a football match will be organised between teams comprised of refugees, UNHCR partners and journalists. Films on UNHCR activities, as well as the High Commissioner's speech, will be broadcast on TV.
The World Refugee Day TV spot will also be broadcast from 5-20 June.
