UNHCR renews its call to strengthen community-based mental health and psychosocial support interventions across Europe

UNHCR prioritizes Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) as an essential component of protection interventions on behalf of forcibly displaced and stateless people across Europe.
In 2024, UNHCR and partners supported the delivery of MHPSS services to forcibly displaced and stateless people in over 24 countries in Europe, reaching over 240,000 individuals through community-based interventions, structured group programmes, peer support and specialized care. Focused efforts were made to engage refugee-led and women-led organizations, strengthen referral pathways, and promote safe access to services for children, youth, older people as well as those living with disabilities. UNHCR also supported capacity development for front-line workers and rolled out multiple scalable psychological interventions.
UNHCR remains committed to ensuring MHPSS is central to its protection response, recognizing the essential role it plays in restoring dignity, promoting resilience and strengthening social cohesion for the people it serves.
