A Partnership for Hope: UNIQLO and UNHCR joined hands to bring comfort to refugees across Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia - UNHCR Indonesia expresses a heartfelt thank you to UNIQLO Indonesia for their generous donation of 2,400 clothing items and undergarments, which have been distributed to refugees in Indonesia. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from UNIQLO and their continued dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of those in need.

With the help of UNHCR and the refugee communities, this donation reached over 1,500 refugees in various locations across the country, including Jakarta, Bogor, Aceh, and North Sumatera. Each item of clothing is more than just a necessity—it represents hope, dignity, and a brighter future for individuals and families who have been displaced.
"We are very grateful for the unwavering support of UNIQLO in Indonesia. Their commitment to improving the lives of refugees through generous donations and innovative partnerships is truly inspiring. In addition to these donations, we have seen refugees given the opportunities to empower themselves through some of UNIQLO’s projects and this has made tangible impact to the refugees’ lives. UNIQLO’s donation and contribution truly reinforce the collective action in addressing the global refugee crisis,” said Francis Teoh, UNHCR Indonesia Representative.

Globally, Fast Retailing, UNIQLO's holding company, began its partnership with UNHCR in 2006 with their first donation of clothing for refugee families in 2007. This contribution was made up of clothes donated by UNIQLO customers through their instore recycling programme. Since the Global Partnership Agreement was signed in 2011, the partnership has grown both in scope and scale, to have an incredible impact on refugees across the world. Over 41 million pieces of clothing have been delivered to people forced to flee in more than 58 countries where UNHCR works. Additionally, Fast Retailing has donated approximately US$25 million towards UNHCR’s programmes. UNHCR’s global and multifaceted partnership with UNIQLO shows the kind of comprehensive support and impact the private sector can have for the refugee cause. In Indonesia, since 2015, this meaningful partnership has been inspiring positive changes to the lives of refugees in Indonesia, as they symbolized support and solidarity from the host communities. As we look forward to the future, we are excited to deepen this collaboration and to continue supporting those in need together.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this inspiring initiative. Your kindness and generosity help bring hope to refugees every day. #WithRefugees #UNIQLO
