UNHCR and Landmark Central Market Company in Kuwait Conclude Awareness Activities to Mobilize Support for Sudanese Refugees in Chad
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Landmark Central Market Company in Kuwait have concluded their awareness-raising activities aimed at highlighting the suffering of Sudanese refugees in Chad and their growing humanitarian needs. The initiative provided advertising space in several of the company’s stores and offered the public an opportunity to contribute to a fundraising campaign organized by Tanmeia Charity in collaboration with UNHCR.
The awareness activities ran from September 15 to October 15, 2026, coinciding with the back-to-school season. Awareness videos highlighting the humanitarian crisis facing Sudanese refugees in Chad were displayed on digital screens, alongside the distribution of printed materials across Landmark Group stores throughout Kuwait, including Babyshop, Splash, Centrepoint, Home Centre, and Max. The materials featured links and QR codes directing customers wishing to contribute to the licensed donation platform managed by Tanmeia Charity.
Rami Shishan, UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnerships Officer for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, welcomed the initiative, saying: “Our collaboration with Landmark Central Market Company for the second consecutive year embodies the values and spirit of community solidarity and shared responsibility. It also helps us communicate our humanitarian message to a wider audience in Kuwait. Initiatives of this kind strengthen cooperation between the private sector, humanitarian organizations, charitable associations, and the wider community to support humanitarian action and respond to the growing needs of people forced to flee their homes.”
From his end, Dhiraj Sood, Senior Vice President and Country Operations Manager, stated: “Landmark Group’s philosophy and approach to business are rooted in a strong set of corporate values reflected in the Group’s guiding principles: integrity, listening, empowerment, adaptability, and achievement. These values are complemented by our commitment to trust, a passion for excellence, innovation, and putting people at the heart of everything we do. Guided by these principles, we believe our responsibility extends beyond our business operations to creating a positive and lasting impact in the communities where we operate. Our collaboration with international humanitarian organizations, particularly UNHCR, and leading local charities such as Tanmeia Charity, is a practical expression of these values and our commitment to supporting meaningful humanitarian and community initiatives.”
These awareness activities come as part of a wider fundraising campaign launched by Tanmeia Charity in collaboration with UNHCR, amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023 and has displaced millions of people within and beyond the country’s borders. Chad hosts the largest number of Sudanese refugees, with approximately 960,000 refugees recorded as of September 21, 2026.
The campaign further strengthens the longstanding strategic partnership between Tanmeia Charity and UNHCR, which aims to support refugees and displaced families and meet their essential humanitarian needs. It focuses on addressing the comprehensive needs of Sudanese refugees in Chad, including supporting children as the new school year begins and providing the conditions necessary for them to return to education safely and with dignity. In addition, this initiative reflects Tanmeia Charity’s continued commitment to standing with refugees, strengthening their ability to cope with difficult humanitarian circumstances, and helping them rebuild their lives.
