Ambassador of the Republic of Korea visits UNHCR programmes in Tripoli to observe support to refugees
Korean Ambassador to Lebanon and UNHCR Representative to Lebanon visited the Community Development Centre in Minnieh and met with Outreach Volunteers in Tripoli.
TRIPOLI, Lebanon (UNHCR) – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, welcomed the visit of His Excellency Ambassador Geon Gyusuk of the Republic of Korea to Tripoli on 24 February where he observed first-hand UNHCR’s humanitarian response and the situation of Syrian refugees in northern Lebanon.
With a contribution of USD 3 million, covering the period from September 2025 to August 2026, the Republic of Korea is supporting UNHCR’s assistance to vulnerable Syrian refugees, as a tangible illustration of its continued solidarity with refugees in Lebanon and the Lebanese Government and hosting communities.
During the visit, the delegation visited an informal tented settlement in Zouq Bhannine, where refugee families shared insights on their living conditions. The delegation also visited a Community Development Centre in Minnieh to observe how UNHCR supports refugees and Lebanese communities through protection activities and essential community and information services. The Ambassador met with refugees and community outreach volunteers to better understand humanitarian needs, protection risks, and specific challenges faced by vulnerable families in northern Lebanon.
