Donor Stories
Even in the most difficult times, we have seen people rising up to the challenge with kindness: Teachers looking out for their students. Communities coming together like never before. Donors giving out of their hearts to ensure that the most vulnerable are not left behind.
UNHCR’s life-saving work is made possible largely because of the commitment and generosity of individual donors. These are their stories.
Miguel Yumul, a UNHCR donor since 2020, has always wanted to give back his blessings to those who needed it most. As an architect whose true passion is building and creating, he found that his occupation allows him to give back to those who need it most, whether it be through service or donation.
He first encountered UNHCR at a booth in a mall after the Marawi displacement crisis. Thousands of families had lost their homes, their communities, and their sense of safety. Miguel didn’t know everything about UNHCR then—but he knew he had to act. That day, he made his first donation.
What started as a simple act of kindness became a lifelong commitment. Miguel’s favorite part about supporting UNHCR is knowing a small donation inevitably becomes a large impact through continuous support. He dreams of a future where every displaced family finds peace, stability, and a place to call home. To celebrate their traditions, rebuild their towns, and reconnect with what was lost.
“My hope is one day, more and more donors would help UNHCR. I also hope that someday, more displaced families will have their permanent and peaceful home,” he shares.
Miguel continues to support UNHCR monthly and actively shares its mission with friends and family, hoping to inspire others to take action. His continued support stands as a shining beacon of the impact one person can make.
