7 Mar 2003 On International Women's Day, the UN refugee agency pays tribute to Canada's leadership in recognising the particular protection needs of refugee women. The Canadian Guidelines have made it clear that the kinds of persecution feared by refugee women fall squarely within the five grounds for refugee status set out in the 1951 Convention - even though gender is not one of the stated grounds. -
