UNHCR in Armenia
UNHCR in Armenia
Since 1992, UNHCR has worked in Armenia in partnership with the Government, UN, humanitarian and development partners, civil society and local communities to support the protection and inclusion of refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless people, and to strengthen preparedness for displacement situations.
UNHCR provides technical and advisory support to the Government on asylum systems, reception arrangements, legal frameworks and solutions. This contributes to the development of policies and programmes that uphold international protection standards and strengthen national capacities.
In Armenia, UNHCR prioritizes access to asylum, legal protection, inclusion in national systems, and support to the most vulnerable, including children, older people, persons with disabilities and survivors of violence. UNHCR supports refugees and asylum-seekers through information provision, counselling, legal aid, referrals to specialized services and targeted assistance, while promoting self-reliance and livelihood opportunities.
UNHCR also works with national and local authorities, development and humanitarian partners, and the private sector to promote sustainable responses, social cohesion and community resilience. These efforts help ensure that displaced people can live in safety and dignity and contribute positively to Armenian society.
