Partnerships are at the heart of UNHCR’s work and the agency strives to involve the expertise and resources of the broadest possible range of actors.
Building on the philosophy and achievements of the UN Global Compact, UNHCR envisions a world in which the private sector plays an important role in finding durable solutions for people forced to flee their homes and build a new life in a new place. To achieve this, UNHCR in Central Europe works to engage with corporations and foundations eager to help drive change and find innovative solutions to refugee issues.
This collaboration can take many forms, e.g. special events or campaigns to raise the awareness about the plight to be in flight. Companies also support UNHCR through well coordinated and targeted in-kind donations. Country offices in Central Europe manage an ever expanding network of private corporate and foundation partners, ranging from air carriers like Tarom in Romania, telecommunication companies to well-known private foundations and philanthropy institutes, for instance, the Open Society Institute.
We place special value on multi-year, multi-level partnerships. The goal of UNHCR’s corporate and foundation partnership programme is to build a long-term and beneficial cooperation for all the partners involved and to contribute this way to fortifying the local, regional and global refugee protection work.
