Connecting Worlds Mentor

Connecting Worlds Mentor

Creating meaningful connections that span countries and cultures to support the next generation of refugee students.

Created in consultation with refugees, Connecting Worlds Mentor is an innovative programme where UNHCR supporters and refugee students can come together to create a mentoring relationship where professional knowledge and support are shared.

With your time and donation, you can invest your knowledge, skills and experience to make a real difference, empowering refugee students to reach their full potential.

In 2019, we set ourselves ambitious but achievable targets across the board: to raise refugee enrollment in tertiary education to 15% globally by 2025. To achieve this, we need an additional $23 million in support.

See how your support can transform lives:

Just 3% in higher-education

Even before the coronavirus pandemic struck, only 3% of young refugees were enrolled in some form of higher education.

The value of education

Higher education transforms the lives of those who have access to it and has a long-lasting positive impact on whole communities. Without education, displaced communities are deprived of the leadership that others take for granted. On a personal level, it is the surest road to recovering a sense of purpose and dignity after the trauma of displacement.

UNHCR awards tertiary education scholarships to refugee youths who have the skills to complete a programme of study but would not otherwise have access to higher education.

However, UNHCR’s scholarship programme is heavily underfunded, and as a result, only a few can be selected.

To achieve our targets for 2025, we need an additional $23 million. You can help change that by taking part in Connecting Worlds Mentor and giving refugee students a chance at education and a brighter future.

Where does support go?

By joining Connecting Worlds Mentor, not only do you support ambitious young students in their journey towards higher education, but you also provide opportunities to those who have not been able to start that journey.

Your donation to Connecting Worlds Mentor provides an entire one-year scholarship to bright refugee students. Your time on the app provides invaluable support, guidance and access to skills and experience that are so important to people at a crucial time in their lives.
