The UN Refugee Agency turns 70 and uses anniversary to reflect and thank supporters in the Nordic and Baltic region.
14 December 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
For seven decades, the organization has been protecting refugees globally. As there are now more than 80 million forcibly displaced in the world, we are using this anniversary to reflect on the past, present, and future of the global refugee situation and on refugee protection.
Even if times and the world have changed, our mandate and our task have not. But we cannot do it alone.
The Nordic and Baltic countries have contributed long-lasting and important support – both as generous hosts, providing welcoming homes to refugees, as well as resettlement partners and significant supporters of our global operations.
