UNHCR works to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution, war, or disaster at home. UNHCR is almost entirely funded by voluntary contributions – the majority of it from governments. Lithuanian contributions to UNHCR
Since 2011, Lithuania is an important donor to UNHCR. Over time, Lithuania has increased its support to UNHCR. In 2023, Lithuania contributed a total of USD 213,062 to UNHCR, making Lithuania one of our top 50 donors per capita.
Facts about Lithuania as a donor:
- Lithuania has supported UNHCR’s work in Syria for several years.
- Nearly half of Lithuania’s 2023 contribution to UNHCR went to the Ukraine operation.
- In 2023, USD 109,649 of Lithuania’s contribution was unearmarked, enabling rapid responses to sudden, urgent situations and protracted crises.
- Over the years, Lithuania has also provided support for UNHCR’s response to the Syria situation and refugees hosted in Bangladesh.
