As one of UNHCR's most generous government partners, the United States makes a life-saving impact on the lives of forcibly displaced and stateless people around the world.

The United States of America's support for UNHCR

For over 70 years, the U.S. has been a steadfast and robust ally of UNHCR, serving as a member of the Advisory Committee since 1951 and a founding member of the governing Executive Committee since 1959.

With U.S. contributions, UNHCR works to protect, assist, and seek solutions for refugees and forcibly displaced persons through the provision of lifesaving humanitarian aid in emergencies, protection for unaccompanied and vulnerable children, access to critical documentation, support for voluntary repatriation and more.

In 2025, the United States contributed a total of $812 million to over 50 operations across the globe, allowing us to respond quickly in emergencies and maintain essential activities in protracted crises.

In 2024 and 2025, the United States provided generous support for UNHCR operations to implement long-term solutions for refugees and internally displaced people. With this support, UNHCR’s solutions projects focus on self-reliance, resilience and integration of refugees, promoting regional stability, sustainable economic growth, and long-term solutions for displaced populations around the globe.
