Republic of the Congo
In the Republic of the Congo, UNHCR works to strengthen refugee protection and inclusion by expanding access to legal identity, basic services, education, and livelihoods, while advocating durable solutions and integration into national systems.
In 2024, UNHCR worked alongside national authorities and partners to improve protection and inclusion for over 70,000 refugees and asylum-seekers in the Republic of Congo. From issuing identity documents and boosting school enrollment to expanding access to healthcare and livelihoods, the response focused on restoring dignity and building self-reliance. As new displacement from the DRC continues, UNHCR remains committed to securing durable solutions and ensuring refugees are included in national development efforts.
With a presence across key regions such as Likouala, Plateaux, and Pool, the operation plays a vital role in delivering protection and assistance in remote areas, while coordinating with humanitarian and development actors to build sustainable futures for displaced populations.
The operations in Republic of the Congo are coordinated by the Cameroon multi-country office.
