Guatemala. Honduran asylum seeker found safety and success, carving out a new life and weaving her story into the vibrant tapestry of her new community

Honduras set an example in preventing and responding to internal displacement with the ground-breaking Law for the Prevention, Care, and Protection of internally displaced persons, which came into effect in April 2023.

UNHCR offers technical support for implementing the law and pursues preventive, protective, humanitarian, and solutions-based actions for forced displacement. The country experiences a growing number of individuals in mixed movements entering, transiting, and leaving its territory, including asylum seekers, refugees, and returnees, some of whom require international protection.
