Dr. Ayedh Dabsan Al-Qahtani

In the past, Dr. Al-Qahtani was a member of the board of directors of the Islamic Insurance Company, as well as of Ezdan Group Holdings. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from The Holy Quran and Islamic Studies University in Sudan in 2014 and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Qatar University.

Dr. Ayedh Dabsan Al-Qahtani has supported numerous projects of UNHCR throughout the years, in the past as the CEO of the Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanity (RAF) and now as an Advisor to the Founder of the Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani Humanitarian Fund. The support began in 2015 with RAF supporting projects towards providing basic services and lifesaving needs through cash assistance, health, and nutrition. The generous contribution helped some 320,000 refugees and internally displaced persons in the region and globally.

Furthermore, the funding from the Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani Humanitarian Fund in 2019 has benefited almost one million displaced and vulnerable populations in Yemen and Bangladesh. 

Dr. Al-Qahtani went to Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh in the fall of 2019 to meet with Rohingya refugees and the government to learn more about UNHCR’s work and to see firsthand the impact of the contribution. Dr. Al-Qahtani remains a strong advocate for the displaced globally. 

In 2020, four separate agreements to fund UNHCR’s work were signed to support refugees and displaced people in Yemen, Lebanon, Bangladesh and Chad. This donation is the largest ever individual contribution to UNHCR.

In 2021 and 2022, H.E Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani supported more than 527,000 internally displaced and host community members in Yemen, through Zakat and Sadaqah contributions, with cash assistance to meet their urgent food needs.
