HRH Princess Sarah Zeid

"Every crisis is important and every life is important." UNHCR Patron, HRH Sarah Zeid of Jordan, meets a woman who recently delivered a baby boy at the International Rescue Committee hospital in Kakuma 4, Kenya.
In November 2018, HRH Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan was appointed UNHCR Patron, committing to raising awareness on maternal and newborn issues in refugee and humanitarian settings and encouraging others to support our work. In May 2021, HRH Princess Zeid retired from the position of Patron.

HRH’s role as Patron encompassed the responsibility of raising awareness on the work that UNHCR was conducting in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the health sector. By speaking about the results of projects included in this partnership at international conferences around the world, HRH Princess Sarah Zeid was not only helping to show the impact of our work to new audiences but also raising awareness on the importance of protecting women and their children in humanitarian crises.

HRH has visited the field numerous times to highlight the importance of addressing maternal and newborn health in humanitarian crises and reiterate the vital need to protect women and girls from gender-based violence.
