HIV

Treatment for HIV and access to comprehensive reproductive health services should be a right for everyone, including the forcibly displaced.
But in emergencies, health services are often disrupted and this affects people who need continuous prevention, care and treatment – especially those living with HIV.At UNHCR, we promote and support the development of programmes to ensure universal access to prevention, care, treatment and support programmes. Our organisation is a UNAIDS co-sponsor and the lead convening agency for HIV in emergency situations.

Treatment for HIV should be a right for everyone, including the forcibly displaced. In order to respect and fulfil this right, UNHCR works with States towards realizing access for all to HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support, including antiretroviral therapy (ART).

In Thailand, where our work focuses primarily on protection and solutions, UNHCR works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and other partners to advocate for refugees to access integrated quality public health services, including access to HIV treatment.
