Current situation
Over 122 million people have been forcibly displaced due to war and natural disasters. More than half of them are women and children, who face heightened risks and urgently need shelter, access to clean water and food, protection from inequality, and gender-based violence during their flight from conflict and instability.
Leading Women Fund
In 2022, UNHCR Thailand established the “Leading Women Fund” to mobilize support from successful women for forcibly displaced women, particularly single mothers, enabling them to care for their families on their own. Through this initiative, refugee mothers can access education for their children, healthcare, and safe shelter.
Over the past three years, with funding from the Leading Women Fund and donations from more than 45 countries, UNHCR has provided effective, life-changing support through cash assistance programmes, improving the lives of over 10 million refugees around the world.
