Dr. Wael Abdulrahman Al Mahmeed is a renowned Emirati cardiovascular specialist, currently serving as a Cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. His previous roles include senior clinical and academic positions in the UAE, such as Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and Clinical Associate Professor at UAE University. He completed his medical training at the University of Southampton and pursued postgraduate studies at the University of British Columbia.

Since 2020, Dr. Al Mahmeed has been a dedicated advocate for refugee education. Through his generous support to UNHCR, he has contributed to education programmes across multiple regions and countries, including the Central African Republic, Chad, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon. His contributions have supported university scholarships, teacher trainings, educational materials, and initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education for refugee children and youth.
In December 2025, Dr. Al Mahmeed was formally appointed as a UNHCR Patron, in recognition of his strong commitment to advancing education opportunities for displaced communities. His support reflects a strong belief in the transformative power of education to break cycles of displacement and to offer hope and long-term solutions for refugees worldwide.
