Mr. Wanchai Tachavejnukul, who has supported unrestricted funding for refugees and displaced populations all over the world since 2017.
Mr. Tachavejnukul strongly believes in helping refugees, a philosophy that has been a part of his life since his childhood, when his family opened their home to a refugee. Later on, during the 1980’s Indo-Chinese refugee crisis, Mr. Tachavejnukul visited refugee camps and saw first-hand what it means to be forced to flee your home. Having never forgotten this experience, he contacted UNHCR in 2017 to learn more about the challenges faced by refugees and offered his support.
Mr. Tachavejnukul’s contributions have enabled UNHCR to implement some of its essential core priorities, such as ensuring that unaccompanied children receive the necessary support to be reintegrated into their new communities. Mr. Tachavejnukul’s gifts also enable UNHCR to plan effectively and prepare for unforeseen situations.
In 2019, Mr. Tachavejnukul visited Syrian refugees in Jordan with UNHCR, an experience that has motivated him to work even harder in his support of the people under UNHCR’s protection.
“UNHCR is an international organization that can be trusted. They always take real actions in the field which have made me decide to give long term support. They come up with great initiatives bringing donors like me closer to the cause while making a difference to the lives of refugees, displaced people and stateless people.”
