2019, a year of solidarity through #StepWithRefugees
In 2019, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, launched the campaign #StepWithRefugees. The campaign challenged people all over the world to jointly reach the number of kilometres refugees cumulatively have to overcome on their way to safety.
Cumulatively refugees travel no less than 2 billion kilometres in their search for safety, often in extremely dire conditions. Globally, more than 103.491 people participated in the campaign, thereby contributing more than 25.8 million kilometres.
I join the campaignIn Belgium, the Red Devils, the Red Flames and the U21 team encouraged their fans to show solidarity and contribute as many kilometres as possible. More than 2.500 participants expressed their solidarity with the plight of refugees and participated in #StepWithRefugees. The Belgian contributions to the global total is no less than 547.560 kilometres!
But we will not stop walking, running, cycling or swimming!
With this year’s participation of the Red Devils in the European Championships and the Olympic Games during the summer, 2020 announces itself as the ideal year for sports challenges. The perfect moment to contribute more kilometres to the global total.
So, in 2020, let’s take MORE steps, run MORE kilometres, cycle MORE routes and add MORE kilometres to the global total.
