UNHCR visits Gomel to meet with refugees and asylum authorities

GOMEL – From 18 to 19 August, a delegation from UNHCR Belarus undertook a mission to Gomel. The visit included meetings with the management of the regional asylum authority, as well as with staff from UNHCR's partner organization, the Refugee Counselling Service (RCS).

The mission also involved a visit to the Temporary Accommodation Center for asylum-seekers in Gomel, which is operated under the auspices of the Territorial Center of Social Services of Population of Zheleznodorozhny district of Gomel city.

This provided an opportunity to gather up-to-date information on the situation of asylum-seekers in the Gomel region, as well as the assistance available to them. UNHCR also met with refugees residing at the centre to gain first-hand insight into their experiences, challenges, and needs.
