Cambodia

The Thailand Multi-Country Office is based in Bangkok. It is responsible for operations in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. Among them, only Cambodia is a signatory to the 1951 Convention.

The MCO countries host 91,182 refugees, 387 asylum-seekers, and around 459,549 stateless persons, most of whom reside in Thailand.

UNHCR’s engagement in Cambodia has been focused on advocacy with government officials on issues of concern to refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless individuals/at risk of statelessness residing within the country, including prevention of refoulement and support to refugee recognition. UNHCR provides technical advice and support to the Department of Immigration, Refugee Department and other State officials concerned (including further training and capacity-building).
