High Commissioner to visit Germany

The High Commissioner is making a two-day visit to Germany next week. On Tuesday, 27 April, he is scheduled to meet the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Otto Schily and President of the Republic, Dr. Johannes Rau. And on Wednesday he is scheduled to meet the Minister for Economic Co-operation and Development, Ms. Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, and the Chairwoman of the opposition Christian Democrat Party, Dr. Angela Merkel.

Mr. Lubbers will be discussing a wide range of issues with his various interlocutors, including the current state of play in the EU asylum harmonization process; UNHCR's own recent proposals for improving the effectiveness of the asylum system in Europe, as well as improving the availability of protection and solutions worldwide; and funding.
