Tsunami response update: Sri Lanka

This is a summary of what was said by UNHCR spokesperson Rupert Colville – to whom quoted text may be attributed – at today's press briefing at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

Today, UNHCR is scheduled to finish a four-flight airlift of 2,000 tents to Sri Lanka from our supplies in Amman, Jordan. A further 5,500 tents are being shipped by sea to Colombo. The first 1,000 tents are currently being loaded onto trucks in Colombo and are expected to arrive in Matara and Kalutara in the south and Ampara in the east in the next couple of days. They will be used to house displaced people currently living in makeshift accommodation.
