UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, advocates for and provides assistance to forcibly displaced and stateless people globally. UNHCR’s Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries maintains an active dialogue with the Icelandic government, local authorities, civil society organizations and media with a view to safeguarding the rights and well-being of persons who have been forced to flee. UNHCR supports and advices the Icelandic government in their implementation of legal instruments related to asylum, protection, and statelessness and supports capacity development in the field of asylum.
This training will delve into the current topic of temporariness of asylum, specifically on cessation or “withdrawal of international protection”. The training aims at strengthening the capacity of lawyers in Iceland in applying the 1951 Refugee Convention in practice for cases of cessation and in understanding the crucial difference between cessation, revocation and cancellation in refugee law. The training incorporates experience-sharing, group discussions, and interactive exercises to foster practical learning and peer engagement.
We welcome all legal practitioners who are interested in representing and advocating for people in need of international protection.
