Donation of ICT equipment to the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs

The activities are funded by the European Union Service for Foreign Policy Instruments as part of the project “Identifying and Addressing COVID-19 challenges within the Migrant and Refugee Response in the Western Balkans”.

6 Oct 2020

On 2 October, UNHCR handed over ICT equipment to the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs (SFA). Donated within the project funded by the European Union, the equipment will facilitate the work of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs (SFA) to register individuals. Registration with the SFA is crucial, especially in the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, when prompt registration with the SFA ensures access to shelter, health services and is the first step to accessing asylum system.

The Service for Foreigner’s Affairs Deputy Director Mirsad Buzar thanked the UNHCR representatives for the valuable donation and support that this UN organization continuously provides to the institution. “In the conditions of increased influx of migrants, asylum-seekers and refugees in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and considering the limited budget funds, the donated ICT equipment will enable better working conditions for employees of the Service for Foreigner’s Affairs, and greater efficiency when it comes to dealing with people when expressing intent to asylum.” Mr. Buzar added.

“One the key priorities of UNHCR’s work in BiH is to support the strengthening of the asylum system in the country,” said Stephanie Woldenberg, OIC/UNHCR Head of Protection.

“We hope that these laptops, computers, cameras will be of use to Field Offices of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs to facilitate their registration of individuals interested in accessing asylum in BiH,” Ms. Woldenberg added.

The activities are funded by the European Union Service for Foreign Policy Instruments as part of the project “Identifying and Addressing COVID-19 challenges within the Migrant and Refugee Response in the Western Balkans”.
