Leading Women Fund

Refugee women around the world face increased risks during times of war and conflict, encountering heightened dangers related to gender-based violence and inequality. UNHCR works tirelessly in these areas to provide fair aid distribution, safe shelters, and assistance in overcoming barriers to education and employment for women and girls, aiming to empower them, improve their lives, and create opportunities for a better future.

Women and girls face violence every day simply because of their gender. Ordinary tasks like fetching water or using the restroom can put them at risk of sexual assault or abuse, and in times of displacement, this risk escalates. Women and girls make up approximately 50% of any refugee, internally displaced, or stateless population, with those who are unaccompanied, pregnant, heads of households, disabled, or elderly being especially vulnerable.

UNHCR works tirelessly to ease their struggle by providing safe shelters, fair food distribution, and separate sanitation facilities. We also manage programs that help women improve their leadership skills, overcome barriers to education, and access employment opportunities, empowering them and benefiting their children, families, and communities every single day.

Leading Women Fund

Established in Thailand in B.E. 2565 (2022), the Leading Women Fund aims to raise funds and provide urgent financial assistance to refugee women worldwide. These refugees are part of the largest displacement crisis in history, with approximately 114 million people.
