The Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al Thani Humanitarian Fund, a global fund established to assist the most vulnerable populations worldwide, has been collaborating with UNHCR and others since 2019.
In April 2019, H.E Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al Thani made a landmark Zakat contribution through the fund to UNHCR in support of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and displaced Yemenis.
This was the largest contribution UNHCR had ever received from an individual donor and the first major Zakat contribution of its kind in the organization’s history. In 2021, generous Zakat and Sadaqah contributions from Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al Thani Humanitarian Fund helped support internally displaced and host communities in Yemen through cash assistance. The Zakat contribution signed in February 2021 helped UNHCR provide more than 247,000 of the most vulnerable displaced Yemenis with cash assistance for their most urgent food needs, among other needs. Furthermore, in April 2021, a Sadaqah contribution assisted more than 164,000 displaced Yemenis with cash assistance for their most urgent food needs, among other needs.
